Hmmm...here I am....finally!!

Hmmmmm.....because I have been toying with writing a blog for the past one year...and while this was created a year back, it was dormant really!

Well, finally I have got myself to start using this and have found a great use for it - to showcase my work in ceramics. I completed a four month hobby course in pottery and the journey has been exciting and a great learning experience. Working with clay is like doing magic....first there is nothing but a lump of earth, all wet and sticky and then........the sky is the limit !! Creating something beautiful to my eyes from earth is very fulfilling and exciting to me.

Am enjoying this journey I have begun and am looking forward to explore, learn and create........for as long as it takes.

How it all began.....

So I was hunting around for terracotta candle holders to use as a table piece for my sister's wedding last year. I have always had a fascination for the natural red colour of terracotta when fired....it bowls me over. While I was not able to succeed in finding something that suited my design ideas or the budget, and instead settled for a glass candle holder, I got the opportunity to meet a village potter in Goa. I was impressed by the work he was doing, all terracotta, done beautifully and well finished. This triggered the interest to learn this art form. I have always been one with an inclination to the arts and crafts - drawing, painting, needle work, crochet, sewing, flower-making and have done all of them in the past. But Pottery was something 'new', something I had never done before. It fascinated me.....so i decided to take the plunge n learn pottery.
